Direct Billing Made Simple

We direct bill many major extended health insurance providers, helping make your visit easier and more convenient.

Direct Billing & Insurance at ProSpine Health & Wellness

At ProSpine Rehab & Wellness in Vancouver, we want accessing care to be as simple and convenient as possible.

For eligible patients, we offer direct billing to participating extended health insurance providers. When direct billing is available, our team can submit your eligible claim on your behalf at the time of your appointment, which means you may only need to pay the portion not covered by your plan.

Coverage varies between insurance providers and individual benefit plans, so we recommend confirming your benefits before treatment.

Use Your Extended Health Benefits With Less Paperwork

Many extended health plans provide coverage for chiropractic care and other rehabilitation services.

Rather than paying the full treatment fee and submitting a claim yourself, direct billing allows ProSpine to electronically submit eligible claims to your insurance provider.

Depending on your plan, your insurer may pay all or part of your treatment fee directly. You are responsible only for any remaining balance.

What Is Direct Billing?

Direct billing means that our clinic submits an eligible insurance claim electronically on your behalf.

For example, if your chiropractic visit is $70 and your insurance plan covers $60, your insurer may pay the eligible amount directly and you would only be responsible for the remaining $10.

The exact amount reimbursed depends entirely on your individual insurance policy.

Direct billing can help make appointments more convenient by reducing paperwork and eliminating the need to wait for reimbursement.

Insurance Providers

ProSpine processes eligible extended health claims electronically through participating insurance networks, including TELUS Health eClaims.

Depending on your individual policy, direct billing may be available through providers such as:

  • Pacific Blue Cross

  • Sun Life

  • Canada Life

  • Manulife

  • Medavie Blue Cross

  • GreenShield

  • Desjardins

  • Industrial Alliance

  • Johnston Group

  • Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance

  • and other participating insurers

Not every insurance policy allows electronic direct billing. Certain employers and insurance plans may require you to pay for treatment first and submit your receipt separately.

If you're unsure whether your plan allows direct billing, contact our clinic before your appointment and we can help determine whether electronic submission is available.

Services That May Be Covered

Coverage depends on your individual extended health plan.

Benefits may include services such as:

Chiropractic Care

Many employer and private health plans provide annual chiropractic benefits.

Coverage may include an annual dollar amount, a percentage of each visit, or a maximum amount per appointment.

Active Rehabilitation / Kinesiology

Some extended health plans provide coverage for kinesiology or rehabilitation services.

Coverage varies significantly between insurers, so patients should confirm whether kinesiology services are included in their plan.

Custom Orthotics

Some insurance plans provide coverage for medically necessary custom orthotics.

Requirements vary by insurer and may include a prescription, biomechanical assessment, specific documentation, or proof that the orthotics meet the insurer's eligibility requirements.

Direct billing may not always be available for orthotics.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression may be included as part of a patient's treatment plan when clinically appropriate.

However, insurance coverage for spinal decompression varies between plans. Some insurers may consider the service part of chiropractic treatment, while others may not provide separate coverage.

Our team can help explain billing options before you begin treatment.

ICBC Injury Care

If you've been injured in a motor vehicle accident in British Columbia, you may be eligible for treatment through ICBC.

ProSpine provides chiropractic and rehabilitation care for patients recovering from motor vehicle accident injuries.

Depending on your ICBC claim and eligibility, approved treatments may be billed directly to ICBC.

Common concerns following motor vehicle accidents include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness

  • Whiplash-associated symptoms

  • Headaches

  • Lower back pain

  • Shoulder and upper-back discomfort

  • Reduced mobility

  • Muscle tension

  • Difficulty returning to work or exercise

If you already have an ICBC claim, please bring your ICBC claim number, Personal Health Number and accident information to your first appointment.

How to Use Your Insurance Benefits

Using your benefits at ProSpine is straightforward.

When booking your appointment, let us know that you would like to use direct billing.

Please bring your insurance information to your appointment, including your insurance provider, policy or contract number, member ID and any applicable group number.

If you are covered under a spouse's or parent's insurance plan, we may also require information about the primary plan holder.

Our team will submit eligible claims electronically whenever your insurance provider permits direct billing.

If your insurer covers the full eligible amount, you may have no balance to pay. If your plan covers only part of your treatment, you will be responsible for the remaining balance.

You will receive a receipt showing the services provided and any applicable payments.

Coordination of Benefits

Some patients have coverage under more than one extended health plan.

For example, you may have your own workplace insurance in addition to coverage through your spouse's plan.

This is known as coordination of benefits.

Depending on the insurers involved, the remaining portion of a claim may sometimes be submitted to a secondary insurance plan.

Insurance rules vary, so our front desk can help explain what information may be required.

Does MSP Cover Chiropractic Care?

Regular BC Medical Services Plan coverage does not generally include chiropractic treatment for most residents.

However, some eligible British Columbia residents who qualify for MSP Supplementary Benefits may receive limited financial assistance toward chiropractic and certain other supplementary health services.

Eligibility and coverage are determined by the Province of British Columbia.

Patients should confirm their individual MSP supplementary benefits eligibility directly.

Know Your Coverage Before Your Visit

Every insurance policy is different.

Two people with the same insurance company may have completely different levels of chiropractic or rehabilitation coverage depending on their employer and benefit package.

Your plan may include:

Annual maximums • Per-visit maximums • Percentage-based reimbursement • Deductibles • Referral requirements • Coverage limits

For the most accurate information, we recommend checking your insurance benefits before beginning treatment.

Our team is also happy to assist with direct billing questions.
